Q- I can see the movie but I can't hear the sound. What can be wrong
A- The audio output may have been reset to an unsupported frequency. This issue is discussed in the Apple technical article:
Mac_OS_X-NoAudioFromCertainMultimediaContent-300832.pdf (Support login link)
In order to change the Audio Output format, you have to select "Built-in Output" at the "Properties for" field. If you don't make this selection, the Audio Output shows only "Output is not supported".
Solution
1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
2. Select "Built-in Output" at the "Properties for" field. Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz.
3. Quit Audio MIDI Setup.

Q- I can't see the movie I selected to play. What can be wrong?
A- You need to be sure you have installed QuickTime (7.1 or later). Visit the QuickTime Download page for OS compatability requirements and to download and install the latest version of QuickTime.

If you are trying to view a Webcast or Online Seminar with streamed video clips, check our 'Setup to view Streamed Videos and Webcasts' web page for further assistance.

Many of the seminars play the QuickTime media clips in the QuickTime Player application and not in your internet browser window. There may be a slight delay after you select a movie to play while the QuickTime Player application is launched. Depending on the speed of you internet link, the speed at which the clip is delivered over the Internet will vary. Some internet connections are TOO SLOW to view real-time streamed clips. 56k modem connections or slower are usually too slow to play streamed clips. The only way to view a clip for these slow connections is if a fast start progressive download of the clip is offered by that seminar.

Q- I am having trouble viewing QuickTime streaming video from behind a firewall. What might help to resolve the issue?
A- For Mac OS X users, update to the latest version of Mac OS X. This may resolve the issue. The Mac OS X version 10.4.5 update is recommended for all users and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes for the following applications and technologies:
- viewing of QuickTime streaming media behind a firewall

Q- The movie stutters (start/stop/etc...) when I play it. What's happening?
A- If you are trying to view a Webcast or Online Seminar with streamed video clips, check our 'Setup to view Streamed Videos and Webcasts' web page for further assistance.

This most often occurs when attempting to play a real-time streamed video clip over the internet when your connection (commonly a dial-up modem connection) is not able to keep up with the rate at which the stream of movie bits are being sent to your computer. If offered by the seminar, play a downloaded clip instead.
Some seminars only offer a streamed video clip because of the length of the clip (in minutes) is long. Clips over 10 minutes long are usually sent as streamed video.
Some large "fast start progressive download" clips stop and start playing because your connection to the internet is not fast enough to keep up with the video. The videos are set to auto-play so they will always start automatically. You can press the pause button (II) on the player and wait for the movie to completely download to your machine (download progress bar becomes solid bar ___________ rather than doted line . . . . . . . . .) before pressing the play (>) button. If you have QuickTime Pro, you can save the clips on your system after they are downloaded. (see "Can I save a copy of the QuictTime (QT) clips?" below.)
Also check to make sure your setting for QuickTime Connection Speed is set correctly.

Q- Can I save a copy of the QuickTime (QT) clips?
A- If the movie clip is sent as a real-time streamed movie, the movie cannot be saved on your computer. Only a link to the streamed movie clip can be saved on your computer.

Some Quicktime clips are sent as a "fast start progressive download" of the movie file and stored on your computer for playback. If you upgrade to Quicktime Pro prior to downloading a clip, you should be able to save a downloaded media clip on your computer.

If the downloaded clip is being played in a QuickTime Player window, after the clip has been completely downloaded, select "Save As..." [Figure-1] from the File menu of the QuickTime player and select the option "Make movie self-contained".

If the downloaded clip is being played in a browser window, after the clip has been completely downloaded, select the "Save as QuickTime movie" [Figure-2] via the triangle at the righthand side of the QuickTime player bar. Select the option "Make movie self-contained".

Q- Why are the QuickTime clips in such small windows?
A- The QuickTime clips are optimized for faster downloading over non-broadband connections; this means they will be smaller in size. If the video clip is played in the QuickTime Player application, you can increase the displayed size in the QT Player's Movie pull-down menu.

Q- The movie is playing and I hear the audio but the video is black.
A- Open the QuickTime Player's "Get Movie Properties" window (Cmnd-J) for the video you are playing from the Movie menu. Select that movie's track in the left pulldown menu and Size attribute in the right pulldown menu. This may refresh the video size and cause it to display. Also try closing any other QuickTime Player windows you have open and try playing the clip again.
